Community Events

Camp Red Cedar hosts and is part of several special events each year – all of which raise funds to help keep the cost of camps and riding programs affordable for individuals and families.

Tour de Plants

The SDI Ride for Red Cedar: Since 2003, employees from Steel Dynamics, Inc., a Fort Wayne, Indiana based steel producer, have organized and participated in a 350-mile bicycle ride to raise money for Camp Red Cedar. Participants ride from SDI Corporate Headquarters in Fort Wayne, to the Jeffersonville, Indiana plant, just outside of Louisville, Kentucky. SDI riders sell sponsorships and collect donations from friends and family.  The SDI Ride is typically held in late September or early October.  To date, the event has raised $351,000 for Camp Red Cedar.

Showdeo

All campers, riders, family members and friends are invited to attend Showdeo Family Fun Night. Attendees participate in a variety of exciting activities including a silent auction, boat rides, hayrides, making s’mores by the campfire, walking the trails, arts and crafts and more! Range Rider campers are invited to demonstrate to their family and friends, the riding skills they learned at camp. This is a great opportunity for parents to experience and see first-hand all their campers have learned and experienced at Camp Red Cedar.

Fall festival

At our annual fall festival, visitors can learn more about Camp Red Cedar’s year around horseback riding programs, tour the facilities, and enjoy a day full of fun, integrative activities. The activities include a raffle, farmer’s market, bake sale, games, wagon rides, fishing, pumpkin decorating and more.

Spring and fall horse shows

With the help of many volunteers, each spring and fall Camp Red Cedar hosts a horse show, which includes riders from our riding programs as well as community riders who wish to participate.  Riders compete and are judged on a variety of their riding skills they have learned over the year. They also receive ribbons up to sixth place in each riding class. Some of the classes include trail obstacles, rider equitation and timed events.
